I heard Naledi Pandor challenge an assertion at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace that Iran was an authoritarian state. She said we should not let definitions close us out from talk that could advance the protection of civilians at the UN.
Interesting point about Iran. I followed their recent election and run off. I think we need to be much more curious and much less certain that what we've been told is truth. We criticize "state media" but we use other forms of pressure that may be less overt but are nevertheless as effective - perhaps more so.
